OfflineA Collector friend, here on the forum, put me onto this nice .22 short caliber, mfg in 1890, as an Antique Single Shot rifle mfg in 1890, that I have been keeping an eye out for awhile, as kinda on a wanted list, as I moved a few other lesser ones awhile ago, as part of a trade deal, after I acquired them in a collection, buy out purchase, years ago. Time flies and life gets in the way of our enjoyable collectable hobby.

I plan on shooting this, along with others this summer at our property in PA, as the Bore is very nice.

OnlineThat is a very NICE second variation low-wall!
I have a nearly identical (a first variation) low-wall 22 Short, but with a Gold-washed Beach front sight and a Mid-range Vernier tang sight… it surprisingly has a very sharp bore (bottom rifle in the picture below). My BFADM conned me out of the top rifle (a high-wall TD in 22 Short) at a Cody Show a few years back… I had brought it for “show & tell”, but an unnamed somebody (who frequents this forum) decided he just had to own it!

Bert,
That Gold washed front bead sight is a prize as you are well aware.
I remember the show and tell Story. I hope he at least bought you some Crown Gold as a parting gift!

If you are holding out for a better one my advice is to live long and prosper. I wish you luck. I don’t think Bert is going to bring his for show and tell.

Mike,
I’m okay, as I never was one that tried to get them all or had to try to have every one. I like you just enjoy them, and will shoot some, and some are still ‘Queen Bees”!
No Bert surprised many when he shared that story and let that one go.

To his credit Bert put up quite a fight, new owner had to work on him quite awhile. For a man that seldom sells a gun he certainly headed home with a bit lighter load that year.

Bert,
Got to thinking about this a little more, as I was wondering how your, BFADM, Conned you out of such a nice piece?
I really wasn’t sure that could be done to you!

Was it a Con job like, “My Cousin Vinnie”, (Joe Pesci), did? The, “buyer”, in this case, doesn’t strike me as a “Vinny Gambini”, type!

I figured I’d work on some Conning Skills, as I’m brushing up on a few Items that I know you have, that you’re not letting go of!

He must have caught you in a weak moment, like after you laid down a few Benjamin’s, for a nice “.22 HORNET Rifle”! It helps to remove some sting after we pry open are coffined wallets! LOL!

It is MUCH happier living at my house, it is surrounded by other .22 rim fire rifles of it’s own kin.
I did feel just a tad bit bad about relieving you of it, but I got over it quickly
It is my turn this year to bring some 1885 show-and-tell material. I should have about a dozen different variations of 1885 .22 RF muskets sitting on my table as “display only” eye candy this year. It will be most of the variations mentioned in your excellent article, 1st, 2nd and 3rd models, solid and take-down frames, special sights, even the hard to find WJRC variation. Hopefully that will keep you entertained for awhile.
Your former gun is staying home though, just so you are not tempted to try and wrangle it back
Best Regards,
BFADM

OnlineTo prevent “unsolicited” offers from any WACA members to buy & take home any more of my cherished Single Shots, I will NOT be bringing any of them to the Cody show this year! I have not (yet) made a decision on what I will bring to the show this year, except for my massive supply of factory new primed 22 Hornet cases.
For any of you who need/want factory new 22 Hornet cases for reloading, I recently acquired 6,500 Winchester (W-W Super) NPEs, 3,000 Remington (R – P) nickel plated Match NPEs, and 600 Remington (R – P) standard NPEs. With that batch, it also included approximately 1,000 1x fired W-W Super Hornet cases that I have since tumbled (cleaned), deprimed, and will size. In total, I acquired just over 11,000 22 Hornet cases that I plan to sell at an extremely bargain price.
I will be selling the W-W SUPER NPEs for $35 per 100 (35-cents/piece), and you pay the actual shipping cost. Currently, factory new 22 Hornet cases (unprimed) sell for $42 per 100 (42-cents/piece) unprimed. Specify how many lots of 100 you want.
If you can find it, the Remington Nickel plated brass Match unprimed cases sell for $1.10 per piece. I will sell the factory primed cases for $75 per 100. Again, you pay the freight and specify how many you want.
The standard Remington (R – P) cases will be $35 per 100.
Please PM me with your order and shipping address.
