I’ve been observing many of the model 1873 posted for sale online and have a question about how to tell original vs. reproduction dust covers. I’ve thought that the originals have 11 notches and any reproductions I’ve seen have only 10. Or did Winchester produce both styles? Realizing that a reproduction can be aged to appear original is the cover on this musket original or very nicely aged to match?

OfflineMost of the originals are 11 notches but I have seen a few original 10 notch covers. The repos I have seen are 10 notch and sometimes they are missing the close notch on the bottom side.
