I was looking at Cabelas Gun Library on-line and came across this Model 1873 deluxe, inscribed rifle, and they are asking $13,999.

This same rifle was sold in the June 2020 Rock Island Premier auction where it sold for $6,900 including buyers premium. Seems to me someone got a good deal at the Rock island auction.

Wow, even borrowed the ad copy. May have to drop by the orphanage to see this one in person.

They should of taken the photos from RIA site. Their photos don’t do the gun justice.

If they rely on their photos to sell the gun they may not get what they got into it.

Some stores have talented photographers, Bob, most don’t. Not sure if Kurt is still the buyer there but I think he stole that one. Looks like they got a little greedy pricing it but I’ll try to sneak in for a better look this weekend.

I think whomever bought this rifle from RIA got a very good deal. Which is unusual given that it’s RIA.
Does Cabela’s regularly purchase from auctions for resale? It seems that given their business model, The time taken to try and identify a bargain at auction that could be resold in a reasonable amount of time with enough of a markup would not be worth the effort. I would have thought whomever purchased this at auction brought it in to Cabela’s and sold it to them at a small profit and now they have it out for retail sale.

At one time I had a pretty good working relationship with my local Cabela’s. I don’t think I’m revealing any trade secrets when I say that their buyers will place bids on quite a few items in the various auctions. We all know that sometimes an item will not receive the bids that we think it should for whatever reason and someone who’s paying attention will get a bargain. Their business model does indeed involve a substantial markup but they have a sales history of many thousands of transactions and they feel they know what a given item will bring in their store.
