I have just recently picked up a standard 92 rifle in 32 cal. mfg 1914.
On the upper R/H side of the frame is 4 tiny numbers, (4976) similar in size and font as the australian retailer james rosier of melbourne, but his were stamped on below the sn, followed by jr.
i have just found the same on a 65 leroy merz has for sale,
http://merzantiques.com/item/model-65-winchester I have posted a link to leroy’s 65, because i cant seem to upload photo’s
Has anyone ever seen this before and know the origion.
thanks

Gday Tony,
I received you photos. I have three rifles that are noted as Rosier imported in my Model 1892 survey. Sadly I was only able to get detail photos of one of those rifles and the markings on it. It is serial number 545392 with the number 21982 stamped above the SN on the bottom of the receiver. Your rifle with SN 724556 was manufactured during 1913, some three years after SN 545392. If Rosier number his imported rifles sequentially, then the four digit 2976 marked on the right side of the receiver certainly does not make sense. That said, I do not know why the number might be there.
Does your rifle have a half magazine on it?

Gday Michael, it is a full mag rifle.
Did you have a look at the 65 Leroy has for sale in the link i posted. they look identical to mine, but cant quite make out what they are, but the font and size and location are the same.
Only difference, is the years. the 65 being made some 20yrs or more later then my 92. WEIRD.
Maybe Leroy can post a closeup of his, if he sees this post.
