I took it to a gunsmith today,it is a 30 WCF,might be original barrel or maybe has been replaced,i thought it would be a 38-55 but not the case.I saw a post on here that was dated back in 2013 and they said the earliest serial number for the wcf was 846,mine is 993 so it is possible, already have ordered a letter from Cody’s.
Serial number 846 was the lowest serial numbered 30 WCF, but it is a Sporting Rifle versus a SRC. The vast majority of the first 2,000 Model 1894s made were 38-55s.

Interestingly, it is a 2nd model receiver frame. The saddle ring stud has definitely been fooled with, as it is not properly aligned. It will be interesting to see what comes back from Cody on this serial number.

I don’t see any rings marks on the receiver or the wood.

Got the letter from Cody Museum yesterday,it was originally a 38-55.Now I need to remove the handguard and mag tube to see what year the barrel was made.
It was also a rifle–not a carbine.

Yep,the barrel must have been replaced along time ago,the finish on the rifle all matches,no finish!
Your 1894 is now a carbine–not a rifle as stated in the letter. In addition to the barrel swap, somebody swapped out the magazine, forearm, and buttstock, too. Basically, the only thing original is the receiver–with an added saddle ring.

Oh well,I still like the old rifle.
And you should! Lots of character and family history in that old carbine/rifle. Thanks for sharing it with us.

I am just going to leave it the way it is,thanks Mike for the encouragement!
In the case of your rifle, I would too since it is a family piece. My question was in general.
