I recently acquired a takedown 1894 in .30 WCF manufactured in 1909 in extra light configured with a 20″ barrel and full magazine. The bore is shiny and bright, deer season is coming up soon in Florida. I forgot to mention it come with a extra barrel but I don’t think it was originally with the rifle and the rifle looks strange with the 26″ barrel but it is a nice half round barrel

I guess I don’t understand that letter. I thought this would be outside letterable range. I’ve never seen Jessica issue a handwritten letter!
All of the handwritten information was added by the past or current owner… not the CFM (Jessica). The person who wrote the information is apparently unaware that many of the so called “extra” features he listed are actually standard items for the Model 1894 Extra Light Weight rifles.

Can you post pictures of the factory markings on both barrels? It is possible that it was ordered as a 2-barrel set.

The guy that I bought the rifle from was pretty evasive when I questioned him and he said he visited Cody last summer, when I asked him if Jessica wrote the letter he quickly changed the subject and said he needed to leave so we got to dickering on the price hopefully someone will verify the authentication of the letter

The typed portion of the letter is authentic… the handwritten information was apparently added by the person who sold it to you, and much of it is just hyperbole.

Very likely a mismatched barrel assembly, not a factory 2-barrel set.

I figured as much the finish doesn’t match the rifle it’s pretty cool to have a extra barrel

“1 in 1450” sounds more like Madis than CFM archives. Funny how many standard configurations are promoted as “Special Order!” by enthusiastic sellers.

To put this in perspective (real numbers), and assuming the “1 in 1,450” handwritten on that letter is referring to it being a “Short” rifle.
Per the ARMAX survey covering the first 353,999 Model 1894s manufactured;
Total “Rifles” manufactured = 276,780.
Total “Short” rifles manufactured = 7,023 (all lengths shorter than 26″)
7,023 ÷ 276,780 = .02537 (2.537%). Calculated to a Madis ratio, that would actually be “1 in 39.4”
If we change this to include just the 2,980 20-inch Short rifles that were surveyed;
2,980 ÷ 276,780 = .0107 (1.07%). Calculated to a ratio, it would be “1 in 93.5”
