Hello,

I am not sure what I am looking at. How much of this is original and how much is not?

What is a reasonable price for this gun?

Description is as follows

This is an Antique Winchester 1894 Deluxe Takedown rifle chambered in 30 WFC. It features a 25.5-inch round barrel, tang peep sight, Marble No. 3 front sight, 4-round half-length tube capacity, and takedown style action. This Winchester has had a new pad installed to the butt plate. The bore is in good condition with strong rifling but has a brown patina throughout the finish. There is significant cosmetic wear throughout the finish on barrel, action, forend, and stock.

The subject rifle is not factory original.  If the barrel length is truly 25.5 inches (versus 26.0 inches), the barrel has been shortened, or it is not factory original.  The next issue is the front sight & ramp… positively not an original Winchester item.  The recoil pad is not original, and the sling eyes are suspect.

The serial number on that rifle can be researched (lettered), and I highly recommend doing that before moving forward.

Bert, is that an almost-all-flaked-off nickel finish or just a silvered, heavy corrosion in places?

Heavy corrosion.  Nickel finished Winchesters did not have bluing under the nickel plating.

This rifle does not appeal to me. I’d take a brown/gray/silvered rifle over this piece.  That corrosion is quite unsightly and the finish does look odd.  I can’t quite put my finger on it.

This gun has proof marks so it has been back to the factory or something else has happened.  Proof marks started about 1905.
