I have a Winchester 1892 saddle ring Trapper with a 16″ barrel in caliber .25-20, serial number 863XXX. The question I would like addressed is this rifle correct with only one complete barrel band installed at the forearm. There is no barrel band at the end of the barrel/magazine tube. The magazine tube is attached to the underside of the barrel. I have received several comments advising that a rifle in such a small caliber would be configurated in this manor. I need/request an experts opinion in this matter. Can you help. Thank you very much. Jack

Jack,

For the Model 1892 Carbines in the 25-20 WCF and the 32 WCF cartridges, Winchester used the same magazine tube retaining ring that was used on all full length magazine tube rifles, so Yes, your Trapper is correct with no front barrel band. Only the Carbines in 38 WCF and 44 WCF have a front barrel band.
