Offlineslk, The butt stock has a recoil pad, amateur checkering, and carving. The barrel appears cut. The entire gun has no original finish. If it feeds and fires it might be a shooter, 40/65 can be loaded smokeless. If the lower tang matches the receiver run the serial number, until then it’s value $600? T/R

OfflineI would look VERY closely at the transition from the octagon to round portion of the barrel it may have originally been a full octagon that has been turned down to lighten the gun. This would be consistent with the cut down barrel and mag. But almost any way you look at it it is NOT a collector rifle. At least to me.

OfflineI don’t know anything about the .40-65 caliber. Could this rifle be bored out to .45-70? I know guys up here that would love to take it out moose hunting. I sold a rough looking 95 in .35 WCF to a friend who is making it into his hunting rifle. They can’t all be safe queens.
Shoot low boys. They're riding Shetland Ponies.

Yes. I bought an 86 that lettered with a 38-56 but had a 40-65 bbl on it, so I had it bored out to 45-70 and I’ve used it, a lot. It’s one of my favorites.
