OfflineInteresting possibilities. Agreed on the Cody records check but at this point there are other avenues for a shooter.

Offlinehad some time today to take off the barrel and it came loose with relative ease, I’m a diesel technician by trade so I’m use to some absolute nonsense when getting stuff lose something I have to take in account when working on the guns is not a lot force and torque needed lol, threads look good in the receiver so that’s a plus

OfflineLooks like it came out of some gunsmith’s scrap pile. Might make a good tomato plant stake.

little surprise on the serial search for the 76, ordered the 40-60 barrel I found for it, so I guess the lifter is possibly the original one, who knows with these old guns, but since the letter says half nickel and the lower tang matches the rest of the receiver, I assume this is a half nickel receiver?
The term “1/2 nickel” usually indicates that just the receiver frame was nickel plated versus the barrel., magazine tube, and the receiver frame being nickel plated.

OfflineThe trials of the Frankenstein 76 continue, so have the barrel in 40-60 I got off eBay, surprisingly clocked in good and straight. Have shot some rounds I got at one of the shows here in Nc and also bought some more off GB for a pretty good deal, have had no luck in finding any dies so went and found a really nice in good shape 1894 version hand held reloader from Winchester in 40-60, waiting on that to come in, but also received a magazine tube from gunparts corp for a uberti made 76, as a original magazine tube has been non existent. One will probably come up now in the next week. But as cheap as the magazine tube was for the uberti I figured might as well give it a try, magazine looks good also got a follower as the one I had was not the correct size. Seems as though the front of my rifle as it was was all 86 parts, as the magazine retainer is to small of a diameter for the 76 tube to fit in, so have a uberti retainer otw, fingers crossed, the uberti magazine tube uses a threaded in plug for the muzzle end so also had to order one of those as per usual the mag tube plug I had from the original parts was to small and also not of the threaded kind. Glad I got this thing for cheap cheap as if I would have spent the money I see them for I’d be about sick buying all these little parts and trial and error. But if anything I’ll know the ins and outs and will have around maybe a grand in this thing once it’s said and done.

And have a zip tie holding the magazine for a picture and just to make myself feel like it’s close
She’s a beaut Clark. Dr Frankenstein loved his creation, it was the townsfolk who took issue. Looks like it’ll be a lot of fun to take out when you’re done.
For sure! I’ll stay on the look out for factory production parts but I felt like this would be a good alternative for the time being, especially since it could be a year before I find all the original 76 parts. I just don’t have those patience
