Winchester 1873 serial number "A"

I respectfully request information concerning the serial number’s (111853A) “A” at the end. I believe the rifle was made in 1883, but was wondering what the “A” represents. Thank you for your help in the matter.

Jack,

I already have that gun in my survey. The A has little meaning as far as anybody can figure out. Some speculate it was a change in production procedure or method. So far I haven’t been able to find a physical difference between the A’s and B’s.
