Hi all,
When did Winchester start drilling holes in the left side of the model 94 receivers for receiver sights?
I know it must have been in the mid-1950’s as most 1957 and later have them but I’m wondering when they started..
I’ve seen some earlier guns around 1953/54 with the drilled and tapped holes but I don’t want to take a chance on backyard gunsmith missaligned holes.
I’m looking for an excellent quality gun in the mid to late ’50’s so the pool is pretty small. So again, does anyone know when the factory started to drill and tap the receivers for receiver sights Williams/redfield, etc.?
Winchester began drilling & tapping the Model 94 receiver frames as a standard feature late in the year 1952 (approximately serial number 1917000), and for a Lyman No. 56 receiver sight (Williams receiver peep sights were always an aftermarket item). It was possible to special order a Model 94 as early as 1934 with a Lyman receiver mounted peep sight.
