OfflineI have been reading this thread and following it with interest. I was also at that show and talked to Dan, and remember seeing the display, as the extra barrels helped to spark my memory further. Darn I wish I could remember more.
I didn’t ask to pick it up, maybe out of respect, but we did talk about it.
Dan was truly a gentleman with knowledge that he would share instantly. With his wife usually sitting beside him.

OfflineAnthony, I was very glad to have met Dan and his wife. Dan really came through to help me with the cartridge for the model 1868 Musket I have plus a few other details on other cartridges, etc. My memory was tweaked by Maverick and that always helps. IF you talked to Dan at his table in the OGCA show, can you recall what I was displaying? I surely can’t! By the way, I tend to distill data and answers, so my short answer to the original question of why Winchester made so many 1873’s is because they could make them and sell them. Tim

Tim,
I know that I met you, and remembered you’re name from the WACA Magazine, in all honesty. Heck I was with a Collector this morning talking Winchesters and swapping, and selling, as a continuation from Sunday’s OGCA Meeting/show, etc……..and he asked me something from an older OGCA Show, and boom, I drew a blank!
I wish I could remember, but one thing that I will say is that Dan always was a Gentleman, and made sure that he introduced you to me!

OnlineThe problem I have with WACA shows and trips to the CFM is my poor simple brain just gets overloaded. I remember that Dan Shuey had a gun on exhibit at CFM, seems another member did too. They were in a case near the entrance but I can’t recall any more about either of them. I get to meet so many great people at the WACA show but keeping names and faces organized has always been a challenge for me.

Mike,
I hear ya! For me it’s a constant work in progress. I can remember faces in many cases, more than names, as I’m constantly working on it!
It can be a little over whelming, but in a very good way!
