I picked up the old 94 today and it has a tag on the stock “ISP 38”. I guess the “I” is for an I state and the “SP” is for state police or state prison. Anyone ever seen this before or offer a guess on the “ISP” tag. Looking at older post on “war guns” I think this is a late 41 or early 42. Barrel is stamped 41.

If it were mine I would look under the tag and see what condition the finish is to see if it was put on when it was new or later.

After seeing that the plate was not put on a new gun I would say the gun was not used by a police, prison or any other governmental agency since they would of started with a new guns. I would take it off, save it and fill the holes. If you every do figure out what the plate means you still have it.

January 1942.  The “41” marked barrel is perfectly normal.
