This rifle is on an auction site listed as Winchester 30 WCF. I thought I had some knowledge of Winchester lever guns but can’t nail this thing down.

Bill,

It is a Model 1894 sporting rifle with a take down frame, half magazine and a half round / half octagon barrel.  The Model desigantion is covered by the folding peep sight mounted on the upper tang.

It also has a bunch of extra holes drilled in the right side of the frame.

I recognize it is a take down frame, half magazine and a half round / half octagon barrel and I also believe it’s a 1894. What threw was the extra screws on the right side of the receiver. Any thoughts on why they are there?Confused

Hey again folks,

Thinking about bidding on this gun. Bluebook is $1950 @ 70% + 25% for take down. Would the side mount scope holes lower the value.  Give me some thoughts please.

Thanks,Smile

The side mounts kill the value by about 50%, and even more to some colllectors who won’t touch a D&T’d rifle.  No offense to your profession.

Bill,

The Bluebook isn’t even in the same ballpark as the real value on that rifle.  For starters, it is not anywhere near 70%… those (4) extra holes cost it about 20% per hole, and completely destroyed the collector interest and value.  It is a $600 part gun.

Bert,

Thanks, I agree, just wanted to be sure. I just checked the site, it is currently at $1100.
