I am trying to appraise my US Marshal Commemorative Model 94AE rifle. I think I want to sell it. I was the U.S. marshal in the Northern District of Oklahoma from 1994-2002. This is #466 of 500. Perfect condition with wooden display case. Anyone have any idea what it might bring? I don’t really want to sell it but would rather have a shop than all of these guns acquired from a 40 year career in law enforcement.
Well, Marshal Hughes… Former police chief of Altus, Ok. Nominated as U.S. Marshal for Northern District of Oklahoma by President Clinton, confirmed by the U.S. Senate, quite a distinguished career indeed. Thanks for your many years of law enforcement service! Happy retirement years!
Possibly your very ownership in context of prior professional status linked with that commemorative itself; such perhaps enhanced value with appropriate provenance provided. Beyond, I have no value idea and just to note this Forum primary focus, guns from the ‘golden age’ of Winchester.
My general impression concerning “commemorative” guns as a species, collector interest and corresponding value, peaked in nineties. Since then, advertising hype and occasional internet sales exceptions aside, such pricing drifting downward, interest waning. My opinion only here! Most retained value exceptions existing in particular configurations and most often there, within higher grade specimens. Through Internet resources, just as finding your background, rather good resource for garnering general pricing info (less provenance enhancement).
Good luck on getting a better reply than my ‘non-answer’ here. If not, you might consider a ‘Want To Sell’ listing on Gunboards Forums. Good photos, good narrative description, provenance, fingers crossed!
Best!
