I am looking at an 1894 15″ carbine made 1928. It has a letter stating that Trapper 1894s were made in the serial number range 1020000 to 1075000. Is that a correct range? I had not heard it before.

No, that statement isn’t correct.

Yes, it is a correct serial number range.  I have documented (86) Model 94 Trapper Carbines in the 1020000 – 1090560 serial number range, with the last Trapper 1090569 (a 14-inch 30 WCF) being manufactured on June 12th, 1933.

Bert, interpreted the post to mean that M894 Trapper Carbines were only made in that specific S/N range. There were no M1894 Trapper Carbines made out of that S/N range?

Ahhh… I can see how that could be interpreted. My apologies.

Model 1894/94 15-inch Trappers are found in the 20124 – 1090460 serial number range.  The 16-inch variation  was found as late as 1330740 (April 1942).

Did most Trappers have short fore end wood and different rear sight dovetail location?

Yes, nearly all of them had short forend stocks.  There were a small number of 18″ Trappers that had standard length forends.  I do not know the answer to the second question, but I suspect that it was the case.
