So I’ve yet to pick up an original Model 71, but it’s on my bucket list. In my usual casual GB window-shopping I came across this today. What are the odds a 66 year old rifle could be unfired and still retain all of the tags, box and whatnot? The small crack in the stock that’s noted is curious…I suppose that could happen due to age. It does look very nice otherwise though. But $7k nice???
What do you folks think of this??
There are fake boxes & paper in circulation, but everything about this one looks A-OK to me. Can’t easily fake mildew on sling!
But ask yourself what you’re going to do with a gun in this cond? Can’t shoot it, or even handle it without fear of leaving some blemish; strictly for display in a glass case.

That’s just it, I like to shoot what I own, and that one would be no exception. To be honest, I am currently I no position to buy it right now and the kind of 71 I will be after eventually will be something with some honest wear and care that I fully intend to keep using and enjoying just as it is. This one just caught my eye as being pretty rare to find

Possibly one of a kind in this cond; plenty of fat-cats for whom this will be a minor purchase, so don’t doubt it will sell. I neither own nor want anything I don’t shoot, or would shoot if I could find the time.
Butt stocks do not crack due to age… somebody dropped that rifle on its butt a bit too hard. Further, it does not look like a truly NIB rifle. The starting bid ($6,500) is a bit too much for that rifle. Realistically, with the crack in the butt stock, and the standard 22-K rear sight (versus the optional Lyman No. 66A), that rifle is worth approximately half of the asking price.

That rifle sure looks refinished to me.
I do not see any overt signs that it has been refinished, but there are no pictures showing the serial number or proof mark stamps which would reveal the true status.
