I’m purchasing a Winchester Model 94 AE 16″ Barrel w/ Saddle Ring in 44 Mag. It is advertised to be a SS rifle and photos appear to be SS or Hard Chrome. Seller says it is a factory gun and not an after-market modification. It is marked as being manufactured in New Haven Conn. and with Serial No 6390381. I’m guessing that it is a late model rifle manufactured after 2000 but I can find nothing about a SS version of the model 94 ….. Would appreciate any help I can get to better understand the origins of this rifle. This seems somewhat unique and I’d like to add it to my collection.

OK ….. Thanks for the info. Hard Chrome makes sense. However, I still cannot find any info from Winchester on a “Hard Chrome” option on a Model 94. I’m also having difficulty finding anything on Serial No 6390381.
One theory is that it was part of a limited production run for the Shot Show, sold to dealers. Does anyone have any other thoughts/suggestions? I’m a relatively new Winchester collector and my current rifles are all commemorative models (5 in total) ….. this is a late model rifle, but seems to be unusual piece, which makes it of interest to me.
Thanks in advance for the help.

I’ve located some reference to Brushed Chrome Model 94 AE produced in low volume in 1999 – 2002 (?). Possibly for a Shot Show. 44 mag. 16″ inch barrel Trapper w/ hammer Extension. Mine is Serial # 6390381 ….. would appreciate any help in gathering additional info.
Why is it so hard to get details from Winchester on this s/n?
Mel,
In answer to your question, it was not “Winchester” who manufactured it. Instead, it was the U.S. Repeating Arms Company, who at that time was a wholly owned subsidiary of F.N. Herstal. F.N. being a foreign owned company was not required to turn over any records to the BATF when they pulled the plug on the U.S.R.A.Co. in March of 2006. To the best of my knowledge there are no available production records for any of the U.S.R.A.Co. products May 1981 – March 2006.

Thanks Burt ….. MUCH appreciated. I did purchase the rifle and it is in GREAT shape. The “brushed chrome” makes this Model 94 a very attractive and serviceable rifle. I realize that as a post-64, it’s likely not going to be a collector grade Model 94. It will be a shooter to add to my meager Winchester collecion (26 inch octagon barrel 1966 centennial, 20 inch octagon barrel centennial and two 20 inch 1976 Bi-Centennials). Kind of nice to have a rifle in the same caliber (44 mag) as my S&W Revolvers.
Thanks again,
