Hello,
I just happen to be compiling a research survey of the Model 61 rifles and have cataloged 2500 rifles to date. I have come across 19″, 22″ and 28″ barreled examples. If you have one or know where I can get information on any Model 61 rifle I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks
Michael

Micheal: How many 22″ barreled 61s in your survey, and do you have any knowledge of its (or their) authenticity, i.e. factory or not?
For others information (the below stated as null hypotheses that can be proven wrong)
The 19″ barreled 61s are all in Winchester counter bore and are in a narrow SN range. Could be factory, could be A & F gunsmith shop?
The 28″ barreled examples are factory prototypes (as opposed to experimental) and in .22LR. I estimate a half dozen or so were ever made.
The one other none-standard barrel example in Micheals survey is the .22WMR with screw-on choke. Factory prototype. Not catalogued. Barrel is 24 inches long WITH screw-on choke. Without choke, 22.75 inches long. Again, there are only a few of these around.
Best, Merrill
