Hi,
I have a Winchester Model 1895 in .30-03 that I inherited. From the bit the research I’ve done and thankfully a very similar post read on this site, I believe this rifle is a deluxe model with the upgrade stock/checkering and Lyman site, manufactured in 1923.
Sadly, I am just not very knowledgeable with these rifles and was looking for any additional details or knowledge you are willing to share. To my novice eyes, it appears to be as it came from factory; however, this one has no signs of sling swivels and has a different wood or differently dyed wood inlayed within the far end of the forearm (which I have just never seen/noticed).
I would appreciate any information you could share, rarity or not, manufacture date if not as stated, rough ballpark value, and any other intricacies that may be present.
Thank you for your time!

Your Model 95 was mismatched stocks. The butt stock and the forend stock are not factory original mates.

Thanks Bert! Due to my unfamiliarity, I thought perhaps they were semi deluxe. Do you know this because of the difference in deluxe detail or the different types of wood (wasn’t sure, but looks like they could be different woods)?

Now that you say it, I can see what appears to be slightly more separation (very small gap) where the butt stock surrounds the top rear of the receiver. There is also the number 2 engraved with a arrow or half diamond on the bottom of the receiver near the trigger. I don’t know if that adds any significance?
Any idea on ballpark value of this rifle with replaced buttstock?
Thank you!

Here is a decent example of a Model 1895 which collectors consider a deluxe as it has the H Style checkering. If these guns are original and correct, the wood to metal fit will be superb.
That’s a beautiful rifle Burt! And thank you for the info. I will need to obtain a letter from records, but assuming its original/minus replaced stock, any idea on its value?
Thanks again.

Dusty – there are no available records for the Model 1895 after serial number 59,999 (you would be able to get a letter for the serial number applied date). I do not have any interest or knowledge of shooter grade guns so I would not be able to help you with value. There is a tremendous interest in shooting and reloading for these old guns so somone will be able to give you an estimated value.
