Ok folks Im needing some help, please excuse typos as Im on my phone. Ive got a line on a 94, ser. #645041. It does not have a saddle ring, my dad is trying to broker the deal and hes not a winchester guy anf refuses to learn (bang head against wall). My question is this would this gun have a plug in the saddle ring stud hole, or no hole at all? This gun should have the capability of a letter, correct?

Also I dont know the type but it has the flip up sights the three lil small V’s. Would this be correct, aftermarket etc. I think it should have the ladder sight.

Your carbine was made around 1913 and will not be letterable. Pictures would help here. If a carbine was ordered with no sling ring, there would not be a plugged hole. The sight you mention was an option. More than likely it came with the ladder sight or the express sight. No way you will ever know without a letter.    Big Larry

If someone ordered a Carbine without the saddle ring, Winchester omitted drilling & tapping the hole for it until the latter half of the 1920s. In the late 1920s, Eastern Carbines are frequently found with a filler screw installed in place of the saddle ring stud.
