Does this look factory original?  The Winchester proof mark is offset.  What would be the practicality of having a ribbed barrel on a 32 WS 94 carbine?

Don,

The fact that it is an early Post WW II production Flat-band Carbine leads me to believe that it is not factory original.  A rib on a Carbine is much like a teat on a boar hog.

Never seen one like it before but what intrigues me is the location of the barrel proof mark, much the same location as what you see for matted barreled rifles.

I didn’t like the proof mark on the barrel. It wasn’t stamped straight but stuff happens. The other thing that bugs me is it looks like the barrel band was screwed into the barrel but I don’t see a head of a screw. It would of been nice if the pictures were clear.

One of our WACA members sent me close up pictures of the barrel bands… definitely aftermarket alterations.  The front barrel band is installed backwards, and I too, have to wonder why there is what appears to be a set screw hole in the rear band.

Another comment from a non-expert on levers….The front sight ramp look’s like it is soldered to the barrel. I would think on a pre 50’s rifle it should be forged.
