Need info re 1885 single shot. Stamped on barrel:
E. J. Koshollek
nickel steel
no.117
.22 HV SPL
SN on tang 44217
The owner is thinking about having it rechambered to .218 bee or something else.

Can’t find that exact cartridge listed in Ness’s 1947 book on .22 wildcats, of which there are about 2 doz. But some of these rounds were known by other names. Have heard of Koshollek, but he’s not listed among the other custom barrelmakers in same book.

Don,
I have no idea who “E.J. Kosholleck” was, or what the cartridge designation “22 HV SPL” is. Your friend would be wise to do a chamber cast to determine what cartridge it is currently chambered for before attempting to do anything else to it. The current rim diameter is important to determine as well.
