Looking at this Saddle Ring Carbine in 30WCF Serial number 788583. Has gum wood stocks with a 1 inch crack in the fore stock and another small crack in the butt stock. The lever shows some case hardening, but there is no wear where the saddle ring would have been. Bore is not bad. Is this a real saddle ring or a fake? Is it nickel plated? Front band and front stock band still show some blueing. Thought I would ask before I bought it, 629.00 is what they are asking for it.

Thanks

Don

I guess I don’t  really understand you  concerns. Yes it is a real saddle ring carbine, from what I see.  Because of the light reflection, it’s difficult to tell, but the gun doesn’t look  like  it  was  plated. There won’t be any wear marks on the wood from the ring. The saddle ring doesn’t  touch the wood on a ’94.

I was thinking there would be some sort of ring wear on the receiver. Most of the SRCs I have seen had some wear on the receiver unless they had a leather tie on the ring and the ones I have seen of other collectors had some sort of protection to keep the ring from touching the receiver. Just thought that a gun in this condition and age should have some hint of a ring on it at onetime. I don’t know I am learning.

Don

I looked at the receiver and I believe the ring was removed a long time ago therefore there will not be a wear mark.

I guess the big question is. Is it worth 600 buck?  🙂

Don,

No… at least not in my opinion.

Thanks. Thats what I thought. Appreciate all the help guys. I have found that here in MN these Model 94s are always over  priced.
