I have a Winchester Model 53 that used to have the eyelets for the sling hooks. The forend has a screw plug now, but I am looking to install some remanufactured eyelets. My question is on the forend, as it appears that a washer goes over the post and the post is compressed. I expect there is someone out there that has already done this who can provide recommendations. Below are pictures of the traditional eyelet kit and forend.

The “washer” was not always used.  If the inside of the forend cap has a relief machined in it for the washer to fit in, then it requires a washer.  If no relief is visible, then the sling eye pin was simply “crushed” to hold it in place.  This is the information I have.  RDB
