Screenshot-2015-08-20-12.46.59.pngImage EnlargerThis rifle was originally an OBFM sporting rifle which was sold out of Cabela’s a couple years ago.  Now it show up on Winchester Way (same SN) and the screws are identical and marks in the receiver are the same.   I just love the part in his description where he states :1892 SRC’s .44’s are bringing 3000.00 to 3500.00 at the collector shows in this condition.   I guess he is just doing the next sucker a favor by not screwing too bad!!

Hi,

I read years ago that there as many faked Winchesters on the market as Colt SSA’s. I thought “no way”. Who would would fake a “brown gun”, unless it is rare? Well, the new collectors are buying at auction, thinking it must be right. What a damn shame. This is a why the new collectors have gone elsewhere.Michael, thanks for your  work. In my opinion there are a lot on ’92 Trapper carbines out there with “new barrels installed”.

Michael,

Thanks for pointing that out. We really have to be careful with our hard earned money, and having you guys maintaining these surveys are a real asset to the collecting community.

I had never before known of this dealer, but after reading his glowing descriptions and looking at the photos, even I ,a complete amateur collector, wouldn’t touch any of his offerings with a proverbial 10ft pole.

Are you saying he built a SRC on the rifle receiver from all non original other parts? If I had the info for proof I would confront him. If he corrects the listing that would tell me something. If he ignores the proof that would also tell me something. On a world wide respected Winchester forum the publicly identified seller should be confronted and allowed to correct the mistake before he is vilified too severely and his reputation castigated.

SRC M92’s are one of the most sought after of all Winchesters. Most are beaters, and even those can fetch over $4,000, especially in 44-40. Big Larry
