I had never heard of this but I ran into a reference indicating T.R. took two .405’s to Africa and one was equipped with, “electric lighted sights” (and a Maxim silencer).  In addition, reportedly one of the two 1903 Springfields that went along also had the same lighted sight (and also was fitted with a Maxim silencer).  This is a new one to me.  What do others know?

If you are referring to the Field and Stream article I am curious as well.

I had not been aware this reference appeared in a Field and Stream article.  Here is where I found the reference (picture #8 in this auction).  By the way, this is an interesting .405.  I don’t believe I have seen a .405 fitted for a Maxim silencer before:

I found this article. There is also not mentioned more specifically. Only “illuminated sights” and “arrangement for shooting at night”.

There’s at least one experimental ’03 equipped with illuminated sights at the Springfield Armory Museum; might have been some variant of this device installed on TR’s rifle.
