This is currently on GunBroker. I have no dog in this fight, but thought I’d post this basically for learning purposes.  The seller states All origuinal condition. What do the experts think?

I think it looks OK from the pictures. It appears to have the correct front Lyman sight.  Some might not like the longer 1a elivator, and prefer the shorter 3c.   But, that is pretty minor, and it really does not bother me.  Barrel date is 1935.  That should not be a concern with this early made Model 70.  Like any Winchester you need to have it in your hands for the final verdict.

Al-

I don’t see any problems with the gun.  Like Bob said, I’d want to handle it…  But it looks like all the right parts are there, and a ’35 barrel date is fine.

For learning purposes, this one is similar.  It’s a little earlier, with the “square” magazine release button (Type I-1) and it has a “flat top” 22G rear sight.  These were available on request, but I assume it’s not original.  It does have the 4-step 3C elevator.  Otherwise the gun is pretty much like the GB rifle.

FWIW…  M70 Carbines are not particularly “rare”, as over 7000 of them were made.  The 30 GOV’T’06 chambering would be the most common.  What’s “rare” is finding one that’s intact and in decent condition…  Whether the gun is worth $6500 is a matter of opinion…

Best,

Lou
