Hello all,

I have just aquired a pre ’64 winchester 94 from a family member.  I do not know a whole lot about them yet but have begun researching.  The lever has some slack in it and allows it to rest to the side of the lever safety pin.  Any suggestions on how to clean that slack up? Thank you in advance.

Thank you,

Cody

Cody,

If you have sideways play in the lever that the lever can miss the trigger block safety pin you have accumulated wear of all the parts. The only thing that will fix that is replacing them and it could even be the receiver.

Have you checked to see if the lever isnt bent or twisted just a little.  The 1894’s will have a little side to side wiggle but not that much as the lever will bind against the sides of the floor plate.  I highly doublt the lever/bolt pin is worn, or the pin for the floor plate (lower front of the receiver) allowing more lateral movement of the lever.  Maybe also check to see that the safety stop pin is aligned right and not bent to the left  (although there isnt much play in those things, unless the pin holding it through the lower tang is bent).  The only other possibility is that the lower tang is slightly bent.  As Bob said above, it may be an accumulation of things.   My guess would be that there is something wrong with the lever.  Hard to tell without some pics.
