Does it letter with slings swivels? You should have a inlet from the original sling in the stock and a hole in the forearm cap from the originals.

Here’s a pair of the hooks–almost certainly repros, as a lot of them were made up about 20 yrs ago–the price has only gone up 4 times since then. But this seller is offering a good deal on the shipping–only $20 for what would cost $3-4 mailed 1st Cl.
The Atlanta Police guns did not use sling eyes, they were sling swivels and would of had a leather sling that went through the swivels.

I see what you mean in the auction photo. First time I’ve seen a sling used without the hooks on a sporting rifle. Well, that saves him the cost of the hooks.

Those hooks look like the real deal to me, but don’t believe they’re Winchester.

I don’t either, because the shank is too short, but they are of the same style. Win & Stevens catalogs, maybe others, show what appear to be exactly the same hooks, so maybe they were obtained from a 3rd party.
Buckingham’s was the first to advertise the repros (I bought several pairs), but then they started showing up elsewhere, such as Jeff’s Outfitters. (They no longer have them, but they do have SG swivels.) I suspect more than one maker was producing them.

I would also like to know what type of sling the AP ’73’s used. I own #74 and it would look nice with the correct style of sling on it.
Also, to correct your first statement – there were 125 of the AP rifles, rather than 115. The first order of 50 was in 1889 and the second order of 75 was in 1890.

Thanks for the correction about 125 being delivered to AP.
I can’t believe I made such an error as I recently prepared a spreadsheet of how many of the 125 have come on the market in recent years. With the internet and Bob’s (1873man) help, I found that 27 of the 125 have been on the market between 2008 and 2020. That’s only 22% of the total made.

Yes, I believe you and I conversed about these as well. I was the one you spoke with that gave you a few more details Jesi and I discovered a few years back. I think that fact that ~22% have surfaced in online websites and auctions is really quite amazing, considering the small pool we are looking at.

Gary – thank you and Jesi for you contribution! If any new numbers surface, I’ll update the list.
It would also be great if the owners of 44, 86 & 90 happen to read this and could provide their serial numbers and the owner of serial no. 289755 could provide the AP number. Who knows, maybe they will.
A Cody records check should get you that.

They can also research all the other AP guns for you for $50 a hour which would not take that long since they are relatively close together and the same configuration.

Mark,
I checked some of my old membership paperwork and you have to be a member to have research done.
I tried to look on Cody’s web site to find this information and gave up. It seems every time they redo the site they put less information on it.
