Can anyone tell by the pics if this is all original and a fair price.  I will be holding it this afternoon.

The abused stock does not match color or condition of the forearm so one of them has been swapped.

It appears to be factory original except for the forend stock… the rear barrel band is installed backwards indicating that the forend stock has been swapped.

The forend stock barrel band in installed backwards… that would be my suspect for a replacement part.

I’ll throw out a number, why not….based on the above comments, and I don’t mind the mismatched wood so much, based on what I continually see in the market, IMO it’s about a +/- $1800-2000 gun. Probably would easily sell for the 2k+ mark on Gunbroker though honestly given it’s a SRC.

Thanks guys.  I agree that the wood is not a show stopper for me.  Any metal issues or mismatched parts would be.  Sent the pictures to a gun dealer friend of mine and he has already offered well over $2000👍🏼

I really appreciate the knowledge shared!  I know little to nothing about 1873’s.  1873man saved me from buying a made up gun a few months ago.  Dealer friend says this one has 3 things going for it.  44 caliber, SRC, and good bore.

I agree with your dealer friend, all good attributes. I routinely tap some of the model specialists on here and always come away with something learned or not noticed….

If all that’s wrong with the carbine is the finish on the forearm then it is worth more than 2k. It is a 73 SRC in 44. But with the pictures being poor and not complete so who knows what else is wrong.

You need a guarantee that it feeds and fires. Ask him what else is wrong before you buy. T/R
