Hello all,
I have a rifle based on the Classic Model 70 controlled feed action built by Rifles, Inc. about 10 years ago. The serial number is confusing. It is G3570xx. According to the references I have, the “G” prefix was added around 1968 but all “G” serial numbers were 7 digits. Mine has only 6. Can anyone explain this? It’s probably something simple that I’ve missed.
Thank you!
Jim,
Sometime in the mid 1990s, the U.S. Repeating Arms Company changed their serial number system for the Model 70, and began using a new and separate series of serial numbers for each variation of the Model 70. I have seen rifles with the “G” prefix that have 5-digit serial numbers.
