I’ve been watching a lot of vintage westerns lately. Sure seems the ’92 SRC was the predominant choice in firearms for both the good guys and the bad guys. ’94 carbines too. Didn’t see as many rifles however, when a rifle was used, it was usually a Model 1892. And Lucas McCain, despite being, “The Rifleman” sure didn’t use a rifle. Of course, we all know the practical reason for a carbine – you can, “spin” it a whole lot easier than a rifle. And Josh Randall sure didn’t use a rifle either.

As a collector I want something on my table to make people stop and look, maybe start a conversation. A gun with unusual features will sometimes do that. Personally I like an unusual gun and I enjoy owning and shooting them. I’m neutral on nickel guns, though. Low condition specimens look shabby and high condition is more than I generally want to pay.

Bob,
You just describe a large number of the 1873 rifles that were exported to the U.K. and Australia.

For me half mag is a detraction as well. The trifecta is half mag, round barrel with shotgun butt.Bob
Nothing wrong with this combination. With condition and at a decent price, I would buy that all day long, especially in .44 WCF.

I agree. But good luck on finding the decent prices–not on GB, GI, or any major auction site. ABSOLUTELY not from Collector’s Firearms, Houston, or our old pal Leroy, or a bunch of others I could name.
Does it letter?

I just picked it up. I’m gonna contact Cody Monday.
I’ll post more pictures soon.made in 1887. Bore is actually shiny. No cracks or pitting. It even has the cleaning rods in the stock. I think that may be unusual. Other than the nickel being worn, it’s in amazing condition. 38-40
I have a couple with nickel sideplates in my survey. What is the serial number?
