It looks like Nick has a good jump start on his new lifetime obsession with collecting Winchesters!

Thanks guys for the kind words about my rifles.  Al (Tionesta1) was kind enough to post the pictures for me.  I’m not real good with the technology end of collecting.  I enjoy looking at the members rifles and decided to have a couple posted.

TXGunNut I was never a fan of the 95’s until a couple of years ago when I had the chance to hold one at a gun show.  I felt the action was so smooth compared to my other lever actions.  I decided to but one later on and then the other one.  I particularly like using the Lyman 21 sight when hunting here in PA. It makes for fast shooting on a running deer.  Thanks again to all for their nice comments

Nick, thats a nice looking 92 takedown.  I cant tell from the photo but is the buttstock a full burl or fancy wood as well?  Most often the forearm on these are fancier than normal wood with the buttstock having some burl or curl to out towards the buttplate end of the stock. Fancy wood on the forearm and buttstock is not a common feature for an otherwise standard takedown rifle.  Would like to add this one to my TD survey if you could pass along the caliber and serial number.

Thanks,

Chris

Chris,  Thanks for the nice comments.  The wood on the forearm has quite a bit more figure in the wood as compared to the butt stock.  However, the butt does have some figure compared to the standard straight grain stocks.  The rifle is a 38-40 W.C.F. and the serial# 18506.  It has a serrated flat top rear sight with adjustment insert, early style elevator and a nickel blade front sight(no set screw).  The bore is about perfect and I have used it to hunt deer here in PA.  It shoots very accurate at 70 yards.  Thanks again, Nick

And Chris I do have a couple other 92’s if you want to send me an email at [email protected] and I can get the same information to you for your survey.

Quite honestly I’m not a fan of the 1895’s but several months back I had an opportunity to buy an early (under 1500) straight side 1895 and scooped it up. It was a bit disappointing as a shooter but I learned to appreciate the rifle so when I saw a nice shooter in the same chambering (30US) at the Cody show I had to buy it as I now had dies, brass and moulds. I really like the Lyman sights on your rifles and the wood is exceptional as well.

Tex,  Is it my imagination, or are going to soon be shopping for another safe?  –You don’t need to answer.  Just seems to me you are having a good year, playing with new/old toys!

Actually have had a very good year, some very interesting rifles. New safe not on my shopping list, more room than I can afford to fill at this time. I’ve been offered a few exceptional rifles over the past few years, some very nice shooters as well. Fortunately I was able to purchase some of them. I’m pretty much out of the gun market right now and as you may know, having a great time casting and loading for and on occasion even shooting a few old guns now and then.

“. . . having a great time casting and loading for and on occasion even shooting a few old guns now and then.”

I have it on good authority that that is what they do with most of their time in Heaven.
