TXGunNut said As collectors the ATF cuts us a little slack on record keeping. If a significant number of us violate the law and flaunt it I can guarantee we will all face increased scrutiny and restrictions. Please don’t do something that will reflect badly on all collectors.

Mike, Can you explain to me how accepting ATF’s definition of “antique” status (even if it conflicts with the latest Cody Museum records) could “reflect badly on all collectors.” Seems to me that would be the “law abiding” thing to do. Among LE officers generally, is the Cody Museum regarded as as a higher authority than ATF?

Madis numbers where extrapolated from a collection of information which did not include the polishing room records.
He died in 2003, 4 yrs before they were made public. How far do his “extrapolations” diverge from the previously accepted factory records BEFORE the 2007 polishing room disclosure?

Never thought of that. My history with Winchesters always referenced “The Winchester Book” as the definitive information source of all things Winchester. I have no idea what information came from the Winchester factory when a collector inquired a date of manufacture, but I never heard of any list published.
