I made a chamber cast tonight and came up with a 25-21 Stevens. All the measurements are very close with the exception of the rim diameter which is about .020 larger then the rim on the cartridge.

Strange that it would be rechambered for a cartridge even more obsolescent than .25-20 SS, assuming that was the original.  No significant ballistic difference between the two cartridges, except that the straight walled Stevens case is easier to clean if shooting BP.

Yes, strange. The one person who could explain this rifle is H.E. Shaw. Or at least that’s who stamped their name on the top flat. I did find a little reference to the name in a 1903 resources magazine in the shooting/ reloading section.
