I wanted a 1907 WSL woods gun and this one was Drilled and Tapped so I took it, it’s a late mfg 50k sn IMG_0717.jpegImage Enlarger

and set up in the police config so I don’t have to worry about cracking the wood I hope. My question is, whats with this barrel, with a stamped “Made in the USA” is this one original or is this a replacement? The barrel proof looks a bit hokey too. When did they remove the tang markings. THX

Steve,

The “MADE IN U.S.A.” marking on the barrel appears on several other Winchester models in the mid 1930s.

This is a late production Model 86 barrel marking.

Well that’s good to know, thx. Merry Christmas.

I just found one online that’s about 2,000 sn lower and the barrel markings are exactly the same. Still has a tang marking, but a few 1000s higher then mine, the tang marking is gone also.

Bert’s right, Madi’s book was way off on this one.
