Hi all!
I hope some of you knowledgeable members can help me with a Winchester model 1873 musket I have been offered by a seller who does not to much about the gun himself, he just assume it have been re-blued at some time in the musket`s life. I will attach some images for you who are willing to educate me on this gun for sale. All input will be greatly appreciated, thanks!
Most definitely a reblue based on the uniformity of the color and the color itself, probably because it was badly rusted at some point….you can see how badly it is pitted. What else are you looking to know about it?
Even as a shooter grade, I’d pass unless you’re looking for something to be a prop gun or getting it basically for nothing. A lot better ones out there to shoot/collect.
If it has rustoleum on it, it would look better. The question is, is it worth what your going to pay for it. What is he selling it for and is the bore any good? You can buy some nice looking muskets fairly cheap.

I had a near mint one I bought from the Grandson of the first importer of these way back. I paid $4,000 for it with a minty bayonet and cleaning rod. Too early to have any import marks. The case colors in my musket were enough to blind you. I made a trade for my musket to my BIL and a few months later, he fell off a ladder and killed himself. I have no idea where the musket went. His family would have nothing to do with me. Their loss. Big Larry
Well Fredrik , there is a lot to consider when You ask for a estimate of value , Your gun was mfg. 1894, so it is antique, in the U.S., as stated the condition is not great as being poorly redone, how ever if it fires and functions properly it would be a fun shooter, and worth app.$1000.00-$1200.00 in My opinion only, if just a wall hanger, about 1/2 that. Your location also is a factor, some of these guns are worth more offshore than in the U.S.. I don’t know what Your intentions are for this Winchester, but if You desire one of these for a “keeper” , You would be well advised to hold off till a better one comes along. Good Luck.
