OfflineFellows: I have a beautiful Winchester 1892 that is having difficulty in loading. It is a 25/20 Octogan barreled case colored Winchester. When I try to load the gun, the front of the bullet goes straight up instead of into the barrel. My gunsmith did not know how to fix it. I have others that load perfectly, though they are in 44/40. Does anyone have any idea what is going wrong and how to fix it. Or someone near me that has the knowledge to fix it? I have a factory letter on this gun, but little to no information other then when the gun was made and shipped? Thanks serial number 554494

Hello,
Are you certain of that serial number? If it truly is 554494 the only information on a letter will be the day that the receiver was serialized and would not include when the rifle was in the warehouse or shipped.

Your right. The letter says “Serial number applied August 12, 1910. No other information is available. It is a beautiful gun. At least 90%. All original blueing and stock no splits or cracks or mars. The case colors are perfect.
That makes more sense. Can you please include pics of the areas of stamped writing on the barrel and the upper tang of the receiver?

OfflineThe gun is in the shop getting fixed. I have a photo of the tang. I am glad you asked. I looked at it many times but never noticed that they misspelled Winchester. I’ll take photo of the barrel when it returns. Have you ever seen anything like this. I have about twenty Winchesters, none are spelled like this. How strange is this?twobit said

OfflineI think you want to take a picture with the light from a different direction.
