I have a 94 made in 1936 with what I call a “musket” buttplate because it is the similar to those on my civil war era Springfields. I don’t see that term used so what is that style called officially?

I would like, one day, to get a 94 rifle with an octagon barrel and a buttplate similar to what is found on a Hawken type rifle. What is that style buttplate called, including the abbreviations frequently used to describe old lever rifles?

The butt plate on your 1936 Carbine is a “carbine” butt plate. Winchester used them from the early 1890s through 1936 on several different models, and they are essentially identical to the butt plates used on several different musket models as well. The Model 94 Rifles were most often equipped with a “crescent” butt plate. Winchester used them from the 1860s through 1937.
