I’m looking at a rifle that a guy has for sale, it doesn’t have the cross bolt safety I’ve seen on some of the newest model 94’s.

Was wondering if someone new when that began?

It appears to be a 20″, can’t tell whether it’s a ranger or not, the pics are pretty bad so I can’t make out the grain.

I asked him to send me more pictures, he’s trying but is not very good at it.

I believe that the cross-bolt safety was introduced in 1992 or 1993.

Thanks for the info, I’ll ask the date in the 94AE thread.  I’m thinking it’s more like 1989.  

He said 1998.
