Chuck,
Nice rifle! I forgot to tell you the rear sight you are looking for is the Winchester 32D with a blade height of .350″ which is slightly lower than the rear blade on the 32C (used on the early Model 69). Worst case scenario, you can get the more common 32C and shave it down a bit to .350″.
Write that dimension down as you will likely not find it anywhere else. Ben can probably help you find one.
Your other option is to install a Lyman 57ES and put a blank in the barrel dovetail, that is a correct configuration also. Regardless of what you do to the sights from a collector standpoint, it will shoot the same 😉

Thanks for all your help. What scope mounts and scope would be appropriate for this rifle?

Chuck,
Send me your serial number so I know the vintage. If it has the grooved receiver then you will use a Weaver style “tip-off” mount.

Chuck,
Does your rifle have “SPORTING” on the trigger guard? Some of the last of the 75 Sporters produced lack that marking. Also, is the front sight ramp brazed onto the barrel (as opposed to integrally forged with the barrel.) Most Sporters I have seen in your serial number range have the brazed ramp. Thank you!

Your receiver was in the polishing room in mid-1955 so any scope of that vintage would be correct.
Here are some of the scopes available in 1955 and “period correct” for your rifle –
WEAVER ‘SCOPES: B4 (4x), B6 (6x), J2.5 (2.5x), J4 (4x), KV (2.75-5x variable), K1 (1X), K2.5 (2.5x), K3 (3x NEW FOR 1955), K4 (4x), K6 (6x), K8 (8x) and K10 (10x)
LYMAN ‘SCOPES: Super-Targetspot 34 mm (10x, 12x, 15x, 20x, 25x and 30x), Junior Targetspot 19 mm (6x, 8x and 10x), Alaskan 22 mm (2.5x), Fixed Alaskan (2.5x), All-American (4x), Challenger (4x), Streamlite Challenger (4x) and Wolverine (6x, 8x and 10x)
UNERTL ‘SCOPES: ¾” Small Game (4x and 6x), 1” Target (6x, 8x and 10x), 1-¼” Combination Target (8x, 10x, 12x and 14x), 1-½” Target Scope (10x, 12x, 14x, 16x, 18x and 20x), 2” Target Scope (10x, 15x, 18x, 20x and 24x), “Varmint” (6x, 8x and 10x), “Ultra Varmint” (8x, 10x and 12x), “Falcon” (2.75x), “Hawk” (4x) and “Condor” (6x)
FECKER ‘SCOPES: 1-¼” Target (6x, 8x, 10 and 12.5x), 1-⅝” Combination Target (10x, 12x, 16x, 20x, 24x and 30x) and “The Woodchucker” 1-½” (4.5x, 5.5x and 7x)
MOSSBERG ‘SCOPES: No. 2M4 (4x) and 4M4 (4x) for grooved receiver (for Model 75 w/grooved receiver)
LEUPOLD ‘SCOPES: Plainsman (2.25x), Pioneer (2.5x and 4x), Plainsman and Pioneer also available w/Hi Power 8x converter and Mountaineer (4x)
STITH ‘SCOPES: Bear Cub Double (2.5x, 4x and 6x) and Bear Cub Master (4x and 6x)
STITH MOUNTS: For the Model 75 – Install-it-Yourself Mount (LAST YEAR PRODUCED), Dovetail Mounts for 75 Sporter T30F front, T20R rear, 22-22 Mount for Model 75 Target and 22-22 Mount for 75 Sporter-M69-M72 (LAST YEAR PRODUCED)
BOONE ‘SCOPE: Saturn Boone Gunscope (2.25x and 4x NEW FOR 1955), w/Boone mount 104 for the Model 75
NORMAN-FORD ‘SCOPES: Texan 2.5x
Personally, I would put a Unertl ¾” Small Game (4x or 6x) on it with tip-off rings. The 3/4″ and 7/8″ scopes look better for scale on the small, light 75 Sporting.

Chuck,
That’s a great looking 75 Sporting, congratulations!
I recently picked up a third 75 sporting, but haven’t managed to land one with a grooved receiver. Mine all shoot very well, handle and balance beautifully, and of course aren’t homely.
Enjoy and don’t be afraid to circle back with a range/hunting report.
Thanks for sharing.

I might shoot it Tuesday. I don’t have any good ammo and I can’t see without a scope so maybe at 25 yards.
