Presents greetings
Just read a local classified add from a guy looking for Model 71’s in odd calibers to include 45-70 and 33. curious to the fact I thought that Winchester made them in 348 only. Any of the more knowledgeable collectors like to weight in on this? I am curious.

Tom – if you can get a copy of the Summer 2021 Collector magazine there is a pretty extensive article by Bert Hartman which will tell you everything you will ever need to know about the 71 – including information on the odd calibers which I have never seen. If you are a WACA member, you can read the magazines under “publications” on this site – good enough reason to join WACA.

Tom,
Hello,
Have a factory 71 in a take down 33
A 71 in 348 that came off the Yellow stone was owned by a Wildlife officer has the arrow head with 40 in stock
And a unfired 71
Thanks

There was at least one Model 71 made in .33WCF – yes, I knew – but a M71 .33 WCF in a takedown version????
No factory original Take Down Model 71 rifles were manufactured. What I have seen is a Model 1886 Take Down with a modified Model 71 barrel installed.
