I too have been a fan of the .250-3000 for well over a half century. One of my cousins broke with the .32 Special family tradition and carried a Savage M1899 in .250 on the family deer hunts. It was a great performer. I bought my first Savage M1899 perch belly stocked takedown before I turned 20. Quite a few .250’s followed including a Ruger M77 (unfortunately not the full stock version) as well as many more Savage M1899’s and 99’s, at least one Savage M1920, and two vintage Griffin and Howe custom rifles – one based on a Springfield action and one on a Mauser action. By modern standards, the .250-3000 is not impressive, but over and over, I hear stories just like yours where this cartridge really gets the job done!
