I got a couple model 64’s with serial numbers outside anything published I can find. SN’s are 272165 (30wcf) and 374365 (32wcf saddle ring). Are these correct or cobbled together guns?

Sounds like you have 1894 frames with 64 barrels, especially if one has a saddle ring as there was no such thing offered in a M64.

You are absolutely correct. They came from a gentleman born in 1922. He clearly loves lever guns as he brought me a 71 and 3 more 94’s. He is still going strong and plans to elk hunt this year.

Production of the Model 64 began in the 1087200 serial number range, and ended near serial number 2189400. If the barrels are marked with a “P” in an oval, that tells us that they were Mail Order parts.

Thanks Bert. They are so marked. After my initial post I was told that Winchester sold a kit for owners of shot out 1894’s. Don’t know if that’s true, but it matches with the guns.
