Picked up a model 64 carbine manufactured in 1946. It is in very good shape with exception of bluing toward muzzle which looks like owner had a rust or blood stain and took steel wool to it…!
The sight is in excellent condition with lever for elevation and windage dial on top. Any possibility the Lyman was a factory option?

Hello Larry,
Very slim chance the Lyman No. 38 receiver sight is original. The first thing I would check is if it has drilled & tapped holes for a Lyman No. 48 receiver sight. If it does, the No. 38 is not factory original. I would like to add your Model 64 Carbine to my research survey. If you can provide the serial number and caliber, that would enable me to do so.

Congratulations Larry! Despite the small ‘blem’, sounds like a great rifle! Envy you!
I have a carbine in ‘pre’ Model 70 of same vintage and several ‘normal’ Model 64s, but nowadays such as 64 or 71 carbine models either of which I’d desire; moved well beyond my ‘pension pay grade!’ 🙂 The great thing about that vintage (& earlier) on both 70, 64 and some other ‘Wins’, the integral forged ramp front sight. Such materially impeding all but most determined faking.
Best!
John

Thanks John! I really enjoy the quality and workmanship of these rifles. I took a few pics and forwarded them to Bart as he had requested.

I don’t recall if they are the same as the ’94s …………. but what I do remember is the 64 carbine specifically had a shorter ramp than the standard length 64. I think the hood was the same though ……….. if memory serves ……
Here’s one I used to own …….. marginal picture unfortunately.
