I have a Winchester Model 62 that has a serial number of 38898 on the trigger tang.  I believe this means 1935.  However, the number on the bottom of the receiver is 18898A.   Can anyone tell me what the A means?  Thanks.

Ken,

The two serial numbers should be identical except for hte “A” suffix on the receiver frame.

Sorry, that was a typo.  The serial numbers are the same except for the A.  What would the A mean?

I seem to remember that the “A” was for a modification that Winchester made to the bolt.
