If you have not already done so I would encourage everyone to read the article on the Model 55 Bert Hartman wrote for the collector. The 55 is about as nice a handling gun as Winchester ever produced – they were manufactured in a limited quantity and nice survivors are difficult to fine. I have recently taken a few photos of one of the favorites in my collection so will share with others who have an interest in the 55. The rifle is not for sale.

I would like to end 2024 with a repost of photos of a rare Winchester – some will have seen it in the past, many will have not. Note the single digit serial number (5) – only Winchester I ever owned with a single digit serial #. This gun now resides with a young and humble collector and WACA member who I sold it to. What a gun – I was fortunate enough to have owned it for over 30 year and I have passed it to the next caretaker. I get a little teary eyed about this as the Winchester lever guns were my passion for half a century.

That’s about as nice a Winchester as they come.
I agree Henry. The deluxe 55 came to me from Tommy Rholes. I am confident the new owner will take care of it until he is old like us and then carefully find a new caretaker. Happy new year to you and all WACA members.

That’s a beautiful model 55!
I noticed the alignment marks by the 5 in the second picture.

I agree with Tony and others – that is one beautiful M55! I also agree with Burt’s first post on this topic – the M55 is a very very fine handling rifle. I have a pair of them here – one .30 WCF and one .32 Special. They are fine pieces – both high condition, but are no match for the one Burt displays. Tony’s comment reminds that the .30 WCF is a takedown – I need to find it in the safe and check for alignment marks.

That’s a beauty Burt. And the fifth one off the production line(ser# 5). Wonderful rifle you have!
