The rifle in this link is up for auction on Proxibid.  The serial number should put it close to the transition to drilled and tapped receiver, but the back receiver ring is beveled and from what I understand, should not be factory tapped.  The bolt is bent, but that could have done by anyone.  The factory tapped receivers I can recall were also tapped closer to the edge where the scope base was flush with the straight edge if the receiver ring.  Any thoughts on facory or non factory tapped?

Non factory drilled & tapped. The bent (swept) bolt is factory original. Winchester changed from the straight bolt to the bent bolt before serial number 8800.

Thank you very much, Bert.  At what serial number were the model 43s factory tapped?  Have looked at quite a few 43s, but never purchased.  This does not sound like one to be too enamored with.

Winchester began drilling and tapping the receiver bridges in October of 1950, at serial number 31763. The rifle you are looking at was manufactured in late September 1950, just days before Winchester made the change to the receiver.

Thank you again, Bert.  I appreciate all the information available in the forum and from you.  I will keep searching for a model 43 in unaltered condition.
